What’s something you used to believe as a kid that seems ridiculous now?
I grew up in the 80s.
Around age 9 or 10, big time wrestling, especially the WWF, exploded in popularity.
Around age 9 or 10, you start to figure out that somethings are made up. (Tooth Fairy, I’m looking at you.)
But the WWF is one of those things that I refused to believe was scripted until I was in adolescence.
Looking back, that was ridiculous. But it seemed so real. One of the things that made it seem real were the magazines that covered wrestling, just like athletic contests that weren’t scripted. And one of the highlights of my visits to Toronto during that time was that one (maybe both?) newspapers dedicated coverage to the WWF in the sports section.
Looking back, I can’t pinpoint what shattered the myth for me. But it was pretty ridiculous the way I’d get worked up about the results as if I were watching the World Series or the French Open. 🤷🏻♀️
